Eight Million Gods in LA is a 10-signature book exploring a more contemporary and western existence of 八百万の神 (Yao Yorozu No Kami), the Japanese belief that there are an infinite amount of spirits/energy attached to all things, even inanimate objects. 'Eight Million Gods' is the direct translation of the concept, where 8 symbolizes infinity. I interviewed and collected items from 8 Japanese Americans in their 20s living in Los Angeles. Using this as context, Eight Million Gods in LA visually conveys the emotional and nostalgic value attached to these individuals' objects and pieces of ephemera, that they're choosing to hold on to for reasons outside of their given function.
