The Empress’ New Clothes

Elinore Blanche

Inspired of Andersen’s fairy tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes” that speaks of truth, pride or self-deception, vanity, conformity or courage of belief. My artwork is a metaphor of bearing a new skin, a new life, a new attitude, was about being true and honest with our thoughts, our feelings, our self. An old mannequin and a torn vintage dress mount a new coat made in silkscreen printed paper.
As an emerging artist, Elinore Blanche explores the complexities of memory mechanisms, echoing the concept of continuity and reminiscence under the specter of chaos. She recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University and continues to explore printing processes.
